CHAPTER OBJECTIVES
• Briefly describe parenting and the ecology of family life and how
both family and child quality of life are central concepts in support-
ing autistic children.
• Give an overview of the research on parent-child interventions in
early childhood autism.
• Describe some of the eternal and contemporary tensions that are
encountered as parents make decisions about how to best nurture
their children.
• Describe strategies for productive collaborations that center learn-
ing together in the context of valued family well-being and neuro-
diversity.
